When Chicago Goes to Washington

Chicago and the State of Illinois have a long history of machine politics, corruption, and cronyism.  Two recent Illinois governors have been sent to federal prison; Chicago Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. and his wife, a Chicago alderwoman, have been convicted of federal felonies; and, in 2005, a then newly elected state senator, Barak Obama, purchased his home in Chicago for $300,000 under the asking price with the de facto assistance of Tony Rezko, who was convicted of federal crimes in a pay-for-play political scandal.

This week Americans — unfamiliar with the heavy-handed tactics of Windy City and flatlander politics — got a firsthand look at what Chicago politics looks like when it comes to our nation’s capitol.

Using the government as an apparatus to mess with the American people, the Obama administration ordered that barricades be placed around an open air public space where the World War II Memorial is located. Honor flight veterans, some of whom fought on the beaches of Normandy and/or in the Battle of the Bulge, broke through the Obama administration’s barricades to pay homage to their colleagues, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice.

Rarely does anything emanating from Washington, D.C., especially from this Chicago-based administration, surprise me.  However, President Obama’s attempts to tick-off the American people to score political points about a partial, low-level government shutdown, has reached a new, all-time low.

Obama’s tactics differ little from those of the late Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, whose operatives refused to pick-up the garbage and provide other municipal services to political rivals. Like Daley, whose police department brutalized protesters at Chicago’s 1968 Democratic National Convention, Obama’s Justice Department made Nakoula Basseley Nakoula the administration’s fall guy for the deaths of Americans in Benghazi, Libya, and sent FBI agents from Washington across country to jail the maker of the YouTube video.

Now, however, President Obama, who hails from one of America’s foremost corrupt locales, is finally paying a price for his administration’s gutter-like tactics.  A new Gallup Poll shows that the President’s approval rating has dropped to just 41 percent.  Moreover, the heavy-handed politics employed by Obama’s team during the shutdown is peeling away the veneer of the President’s so-called likability factor. For the first time since he took office, Americans are perceiving Obama as the second-rate political hack who could careless about the plight of average Americans and our nation’s greatest generation.

So let the Democrat Party’s war on World War II veterans move — in Obama speak —  forward and watch his poll numbers and those of his party’s Chicago political machine slide into the abyss.
